STATEMENT ON ALL OF THE DAMN STATEMENTS ABOUT UGANDA

The leadership of Solidarity Uganda grows increasingly frustrated by idle statements unaccompanied by action substantial enough to compromise Dictator Yoweri Museveni’s unbridled 35-year grip on power.

This is not our first rodeo. We have been here before. Ambassadors, civil society organizations, and others continue to call upon the dictatorship to open democratic political space for its opposition. We know from experience that these calls and statements have no teeth. Given the escalating frequency of grave abuses of the authoritarian, kleptocratic Ugandan state, we therefore refuse to endorse any statement that does not push for at least one of the following:

1) Comprehensive financial and military sanctions of Museveni’s regime, especially by North American and European superpowers.

2) Direct action both within Uganda against Museveni’s dictatorship and abroad against targets such as foreign corporations operating in Uganda, Ugandan embassies, and ruling party politicians and tycoons in the diaspora.

Solidarity Uganda is a network of thousands of grassroots farmers, workers, unemployed persons, youth, women, men, elders, and other members across all kingdoms of Uganda, struggling for freedom in our motherland.

Unity is power,

Solidarity Uganda

Empowering the oppressed with skills for strategic nonviolence and movement building.

We educate vulnerable communities through discussion-based “problem-posing” education. The pedagogical methods of such community-based trainings employ cross-cultural interactions, physical activities, arts, debates, and other interactive and experiential approaches. Some call this “popular education,” “pedagogy of the oppressed,” or “adult education” (but we think even kids learn better this way)
