WII OTEM Center for Resistance and Alternatives

Gene Sharp, a Harvard academic and a pioneer of nonviolent resistance, left a legacy of influential works like From Dictatorship to Democracy and 198 Methods of Nonviolent Action, which have empowered oppressed people worldwide. Yet, the field of civil resistance remains underexplored, particularly in the global south, where movements face unique challenges of repression and violence.

Solidarity Uganda seeks to fill this gap with the WII OTEM Center for Resistance and Alternatives. By partnering with academic institutions, we will document Africa’s innovative approaches to civil resistance, producing credible research and accessible content through radio, podcasts, journals, and more. Our goal is to create resources that serve not only scholars but also activists, organizers, and progressive leaders on the frontlines of the fight for justice.
