The National Land Defense League (NLDL)

The National Land Defense League was started by Solidarity Uganda as a network of communities, primarily led by rural adult women, who successfully (or partially successfully) prevented land grabs through the skills and expertise offered by Solidarity Uganda. Since its inception in 2018, NLDL has achieved remarkable milestones in supporting communities in their battle against land grabbing and unlawful evictions. The bond of solidarity among select communities, nurtured through exchange visits and joint actions, has been a source of great strength. Yet, as we reflect on our journey, we recognize that there remains a wealth of untapped potential in uniting the diverse groups and communities committed to challenging land injustices. Our quest for collective actions continues, for there is much more to be aspired to and achieved in our shared pursuit of justice. It is time to put deliberate focus on scaling up this movement.  Linkages between chapters should also be formed. The long-term goal is for the NLDL to be an autonomous, unregistered formation. Civil society organizations are not allowed to be members.
